The revised Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (rRST) perspective on personality suggests that a neuropsychological behavioural inhibition system (BIS), approach (BAS), and fight-flight-freeze (FFFS) produce the key traits involved in avoidance behaviours. This can be used as framework for understanding psychopathology. Self-report research rRST restrictive disordered eating relates to elevated BIS sensitivity, FFFS possibly dysfunctional BAS sensitivity.
