Are reinforcement sensitivity personality constructs and attentional control important predictors of restrictive disordered eating?

چکیده
The revised Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (rRST) perspective on personality suggests that a neuropsychological behavioural inhibition system (BIS), approach (BAS), and fight-flight-freeze (FFFS) produce the key traits involved in avoidance behaviours. This can be used as framework for understanding psychopathology. Self-report research rRST restrictive disordered eating relates to elevated BIS sensitivity, FFFS possibly dysfunctional BAS sensitivity. Disordered also relate reduced trait mindfulness, which is broadly defined construct. Trait mindfulness positively correlated with attentional control (AC) more specific component of our cognitive architecture incorporates focusing shifting processes. It unknown how AC interact predict eating. We tested self-reported BIS, BAS, AC, 464 healthy participants, 177 participants history psychiatric disorder. provide new evidence abilities (in addition sensitivity). illustrate combination high low predicts levels (but not all participants), whereas lower participants). discuss relationship between inform design future intervention studies.

Reinforcement sensitivity theory and personality.
A fully fledged neuroscience of personality is beginning to emerge, shaped and guided in large measure by the seminal work of Jeffrey A. Gray over a period of 40 years. In this Festschrift, I trace the theoretical development of Gray's approach--now known as Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (RST)--out of the Eysenckian tradition to its most recent articulation. Experimental attempts to test RST...

متن کاملEating disordered patients: personality, alexithymia, and implications for primary care.
BACKGROUND Eating disorders are becoming more apparent in primary care. Descriptions of character traits related to people with eating disorders are rarely reported in the primary care literature and there is little awareness of the implications of alexithymia--a concept that defines the inability to identify or express emotion. We hypothesised that many individuals with active eating disorders...
